Hashing is a truly unique activity

Someone was sharing this in our internal chat group for the Hash House Harriers and while it is meant to be silly, just like most of what Hashers do, it is also very true.

Venn diagrams are fun anyway, but this is the first one that I have seen that directly applies to the Hash and it is very true. There isn't really any other activity that I can imagine that involves drinking, running, and singing by default. Sure you could incorporate them into just about any sport but that isn't what it would be like without changing it a bit.

When the Hashers get together, you can be guaranteed a good time. I have only ever seen a couple of instances where people didn't have a good time and well, it was kind of their fault that they had a bad time because they didn't listen to the briefing, got hung up at the back of the pack, didn't have a phone with them, and wandered off trail. When they finally returned to the camp we had already fired up the meeting because it was rather pointless for us to go and search for them since we don't know where they wandered off too. They were a bit upset but look guys, you gotta take some personal responsibility, especially if you are going to linger at the back of the pack.

The singing mostly takes part at the end of the runs as it is traditional to have a song for everyone that gets put on the ice. For the most part these songs are very demeaning (intentionally) and once you learn a few of them they are a lot of fun. There are many websites out there that have the words and tunes for the songs but mostly they are all adaptations of other songs but they are crude and not at all PC.

Sometimes our runs have drinking during the running but it isn't every time. These are called beer stops and someone meets you in the woods at a certain point and people are entitled to a beer, actually, unless you are a non drinker or recovering alcoholic, you are expected to have a beer at all of these stops when they are provided. You can expect to be picked on during the circle at the end should you choose to skip any of them. Hydration is for chumps!

At the end of the day Hashing is a great experience and I once again encourage anyone out there to come and join us in Chiang Mai (details available on our website) or to seek out a Hash in your local area. I promise it will change your life for the better.
