I don't know which country is doing the correct thing as far as covid restrictions or protocols are concerned, but I strongly believe that none of them are honestly. For about half a year Thailand had no restrictions to speak of really and then we started following what Europe did because it at least appeared to be the correct approach. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like anyone did the right thing because now here we are and our members back in the UK are doing basically whatever they want and we on the other hand are quite limited in the activities we are allowed to engage in. All Hash runs have been cancelled until at least the 6th of December and we are not yet sure if even that will be allowed.
In the meantime we are living vicariously through some of our UK members who keep claiming they are going to come back here as soon as they can or as soon as life has returned to normal here in Thailand. I am sure that most of these people would prefer to avoid the blistering UK winter. Well, it's blistering compared to here anyway.
From what I have been told masks and gathering of a certain amount of people carry on as usual back in the UK and according to Prison Bitch and Discharge (their Hash names) everyone there gets to do basically whatever they want. Of course all of these people are vaccinated but according to the feet on the ground witnesses, nobody really checks to see if anyone is vaccinated or not and outside of very specific areas, there are no mask requirements at least where they live.
One of our Thai members who is married to a UK ex General Manager of the Chiang Mai Hash is actually there as well. Her name is Knockout (again, Hash name) and I have no idea how she got that name. I presume it is because she is a bit better looking than your average Hash member. Since she is Thai, we have been informed that she complains about the cold a lot more than the others. This is normal for Thai people and we do the opposite over here when we all sweat like mad and she doesn't even appear to be overheated.
At least some of our members abroad are still taking advantage of doing Hash runs but in the meantime all we can do is be a bit jealous and hope for the best in the not so distant future. Honestly though, the government is so messed up here in Chiang Mai that it wouldn't surprise me at all of they don't actually follow through on allowing gatherings from the 6th of Dec onward.
let's just stay optimistic and hopefully we will be back on trail soon!
