Most of our rules are just silly reasons to force you to sit on the ice but one that will definitely attract attention to you is if you get tired during a get together. There is no particular reason for this but it is just another one of our traditions to force people to sit on the ice.
There are a ton of other things that can land you on the ice and one of them is "not yawning." Really, you have to work pretty hard to not get put on the ice here with the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers.
The idea isn't to punish any actual wrong-doing. Ironically, actual wrong-doing tends to not be punished at all but instead we punish good behavior and for the most part this is a global phenomenon of the Hash.
You can get put on the ice for running too fast, being too loud, walking too slow, and also being too quiet.
The idea here is to get you on the ice no matter the cost or even if your infraction was real. One of the worst things you can do is to claim innocence of your "crime." This will definitely insure that you get put on the ice again for insolence.
One time I was put on the ice by another member for an infraction that I actually witnessed him doing on the trail. He knew that I was going to put him on the ice for it so he jumped the gun and put me on the ice for it before I could accuse him. We laughed and he had a cheeky grin on his face the entire time that he was berating me for my crime. I just took it and never spilled the beans to the crowd gathered at the time.
I find it just makes us all better pals and it is meant in good fun. We are "drinkers with a running problem" after all, and we like to have fun. Come join us in Chiang Mai if you are in the area. We go 3 times a week and all are welcome!
