Bad Behavior: Bribing for UpvotessteemCreated with Sketch.

In addition to these disapproved behaviors:

  • f4f: I follow you, please follow me
  • begging for upvote: I upvoted your post, please upvote mine
  • upvoting at 100% your own "nice post" comment

I just have been witness to another bad behavior:

Bribing for Upvote

Somebody sent me 0.001 SP with this memo:

  • Bussines proposal: Hi vcelier If you upvote this post with 100% of your voting power I will return to you 50% of the steem dollars from that vote as soon as I get paid: (followed by a link to his post)

I absolutely dislike this kind of attitude.

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

I feel sad now. Nobody offers to bribe me.

You want me to bribe you? ;-)

SO FUNNY SIR PLEASE FOLLOW BACK @vcelier

ha ha

I have said for years that I take bribes. Hasn't worked yet.

Bribe me . but in a legal way haha

Kickback!

Finally, someone has said it. Thanks for this heads up.

Thats when you know you've made it. When people are sending you steem to think about upvoting their posts. They just ask me in the comments and dont even upvote my post.

Totally agree with you, i'm new to this and I've never done that

That's ridiculous. and as part of community, we should continue to share and report this type of behavior so we can keep the community clean. Thanks for doing this.

Yes all those things I hate on here, luckily I am a very small Minnow so not seeing to much of it on my posts but I hope somehow this sort of behavior is curtailed somehow it takes away from all the good on this site

I've seen these things. I thought it was part of the local culture.

People really stop need to do this kind of thing, I understand because you can earn money with that..and of course I want to earn money too, but we have to treat this platform also like another social media platform, respect and create good content , things will come. I hate F4F too.

A lot of people have been writing about this, but no one's mentioned the last point that you made. Paying for votes. I've noticed it on other whales accounts and I find it especially odd. What do you do with the funds they send do you send it back?

Yes, I sent it back with this memo:

  • Don't try this again with me. I hate this kind of behavior.

personally, i'd keep it and leave a comment on their most recent post stating that you would not be refunding their obvious bribe and that they should maybe just create better content.

but i'm something of an asshole in that regard.

Can we earn by commenting ?

Yes, you can, if your comments are upvoted.

See for example the first comment from @davidding: it has been upvotes at least 8 times.

yes i agree, bots that sell upvotes are taking advantage of the steemit platform, and not using it the website like its intended to be. these accounts should be permanetly banned

no one gets banned in here. That's not part of the deal.

people are sent into reputation dungeon, but not banned.

when they get hit by whale by downvote for those behaviors, their reputation hit down under 25 does get them ghost. Don't think account can be banned. It's decentralized.

The bribe thing is really annoying. It is a shame when folks only focus on making money than contribute quality content.
One more annoying thing is plagiarism. We need a way to ban people after 10 strikes of bad habits exhibited.

Yes I hate that one. In general I suspect if these behaviours work on a long term basis the system may end up being flawed.
I particularly dislike people upvoting their own comments on your post- I had a run of this for a bit. You can always tell because they give you some kind of robotic comment and then you check and...sure enough...no upvote because they are saving their power for themselves. Then they upvote themselves after a bit. Arggh...

hihihihi
i think that guy is dealing a lot with police men
:)

Hey, good post. Please, please, please, please, please follow me - upvote me - and I will send you 1,000,000 Steem-Backed-Dollars!!! Trust me! ;-)

Well, I am not in Lagos, and I need you to give me first 100 SBD for my expenses before you can send me these 1M SBD.
If you send me these 100 SBD, I will trust you, I swear.

My problem is I can't afford to invest in STEEM itself. The minnow support stuff, which I've tried to make work for me, is nothing but gaming the system off-platform with pitiful results. I try to make quality content in what time I have, but that's tough with no tech expertise, just limber thinking.

All that being said, the spammy begging and plagiarism has got to stop.

This is a huge constant issue, see it a lot on this profile and my personal one. I get promoting yourself out there but trying to get equal return for upvoting or following is not an act that favors a direct return always. Make it about providing great content and any Steemian gets my love and support. With you 100 on this one, does get to be a heavy issue of annoyance out there. by the way, I just upvoted you lol....do not upvote me back, I am not a hypocrite here mauhahahahaha. Great post!!!

Amen. In my first few days here, I participated in a follow train. I need to go through and de-crap my following list. Some neat people were part of it, but it was mostly crap. It just seemed so attractive to newbie me.

Real eye opener for newbies like me. Thank you for sharing this important.

That´s so true my friend!! It´s a very ugly behavior

It's funny because they usually transfer like 0.001 sbd and it's like, hey guy thanks for 1/100th of a penny!

plize folo mi!

Haha, sorry, I had to make that. Cheers. ;)

Noo, aye ouil note fauleau youh!

Haha. Ca sent le français par là. ;)

Ciertamente es algo deshonesto, que aveces muchos caemos en ello, pero esto nos hace reflexionar. Aun unos lo hacen sin darse cuenta, pero otros si tienen la mala intención.

It's true that many newbies do not realize it is not the culture of Steemit. This is why others and myself created these posts to tell them that such behaviors are not OK.

thanks for share...

Wow. I'm still pretty new here and it seem like there is more and more of this stuff... beyond ridiculous. Upvoted with hopes of common sense showing up and following you. So nice to see a Burnaby BC person who's been here since 2016, it's awesome how many Canadians are here! Have a great weekend!!

Yes, have a great weekend too.
I am going to Harrison Hot Springs right now.

Thanks and enjoy! That's an awesome place.

I know, I own a house there.

That's fantastic, ultimate city escape.

I don't know if I would consider "f4f: I follow you, please follow me" or asking someone for an upvote who has more Steem power then you a "bad behavior." Asking someone for an upvote to have some of your hard work seen by others shouldn't be frowned upon how else do you propose people grow? However, bribing someone for upvotes is a different story and I disagree with that 100%.

Good post, you're very right on that.

Someone who tells the truth! I agree 100%

Great post!

I just posted my first post. Someone said he followed me and would be glad if I would follow back. Well I am new here so I thought thats how it goes lol

You should follow only if the person has a blog that interests you.

If you follow several hundreds accounts, you will probably not check all their posts, so what good is it to follow so many people?

I have decided from the start that I will not follow more than 50 accounts.
And I already unfollowed several that were posting too often for my taste.

Thats so true..i was following too many accounts at the beginning and missing on a really good content.
Im here only few weeks and absolutely love it.
Another lesson learned!

please can you upvote me f4f....I'll give you 75% of my SP after I power it down, after 7 days after it is paid.

No, @stellabelle, I cannot upvote you this time.

I can flag you, though. Would you like that?
;-)

How annoying, blogging should be fun and not some kind of competition of having plenty upvote. If your post is good, creative, informing and educative. I don't think that post will have to beg or bribe to get upvote.
Good job exposing the shameful act.

I've seen that too in another person's wallet, someone asked them check their blog out or upvote them I forget. It's getting really annoying, I haven't seen this sorta behavior anywhere else. Except MySpace.

and we don't want to be the next MySpace!

I could use a new layout hahaha

Thank you very much my friend, for this article. Well, that there are decent authors and curators on Stimite, I really like it. I make a repost of this article, let people read it and think about this problem. I respect you for your principled position! @vcelier

Can't say I expect to be bribed anytime soon, even with this massive 1 cent upvote I'm carrying around in plain sight.

This is definitely true. I agree with you 100% !

Tooo bd..

Kinda seems silly, but it's one way to get there. Reminds me of Instagram groups lol

I really don't like send me 0.001SP and give me some memo. If they want or help me. Need to send at least 0.1SP. Haha jokking.

And i think you choose proper photo.

I do not know what these kind of people expect :D that it will work :D ?

Good content and hard work will raise to the top...
I can't stand those begging comments :P

Les gens abusent ! Ça en devient lassant ...

Haha.. this happens always to me... You know what I'm new here but still people ask me the same question " I have upvoted your post and followed so do mine too" I don't know why people say so... They can ask to look for their post in case we haven't seen but this way bribing for vote is absolutely wrong. I have almost 240 followers but out of them approx. 50%are those guys who sent me the bribe offer. That's a shame. I met so good people here and they appreciated my work...
