Unique 4 Face Buddha Statue in Yeosan, Korea

in travel •  6 years ago

It is said that there have been existing 3 Buddha stone statues of BaekJae dynasty up until now. The plenty of stone statues must had been made while Baekjae kingdom was survived. But almost of those stone statues were disappeared in chaotic situation except these 3 statues.

I traveled Chungcheongdo and Cheollado province in Korea to find the flavors of Baekjae kingdom. Its historical tragedy made me curious about Baekjae dynasty . The relics of Baekjae dynasty were totally destroyed during the wars and after its collapse. Most of relics were smuggled out of the country in the era of the Japanese Imperial Invasion.

In this posting I’d like to introduce one of those 3 stone statues remaining up until now.

After looking around Muryang-sa temple, I headed for Yeosan county in Chungcheongdo province where was once the center of the culture in Baekjae dynasty.

There were nothing special historical architectural structures around the statue. Considering the importance of the statue, there must be a large scale of the temple. But what I saw there was nothing but an agricultural field.

It was not easy to find the entrance to get to the statue at first. It seemed that there were no visitors for a long time in this summer.

The statue stood on the hill.

There was the piled stones in front of the statue.

The statue was protected in the traditional pavilion like architecture and which was surrounded by the trees.

The green colors of the trees made my mind peaceful and calm.
Sitting on the steps of the pavilion, I enjoyed the tranquility in the isolated historical spot.

@slowwalker, I guess BaekJae dynasty made most amazing stone statues. Unfortunately other stone statues were disappeared. Those statues showing South Korean's Buddhist architecture. Final hall really cool spot under the tree shades & cool air. Better explain behind story there and brilliant looking photo clicks.

@slowwalker,
I am curious to see that Statue! My country also got that kind of Stone Statues! I don't even think now we can craft statue like they did without such high end technologies! Hope to see your next post to get more information about these statues!

Cheers~

Nice picture brother. I like it :)

This place is a very nice place to enjoy such places

A great place where beauty and calm reigns everywhere. Ordinary stones folded near the statue look very nice.

Is korea temples set entrance fees normally??
I'm thinking to visit korea and visit my friend there....
In Japan entrance fees everywhere.
In Malaysia we normally has no fees needed for these kind of park and Temple.

Baekjae is my 2nd favorite ofbthe three kingdoms after Goguryeo.

Watching it though your camera lens was great interesting shots :)

Beautiful well-kept place, picturesque surroundings, @slowwalker
The sun brightly illuminates this gazebo in which there is a statue.
Truly there is a pleasant atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

There are quite tall trees surrounding the Statue in Yeosan, the place is almost completely sank in the forest. But that may give the calmness and peace for those who coming to enjoy the history, look around and just to think about the past, looking at statue and trying to figure out what other people in past thought when they created it. Still everything is in a great condition with very bright colors, I love the colors and this pile of stones, look really interesting. I would be glad to know how the statue look like :)

Loved that place. ❤ I love the temple, such a beautiful piece of piled stones. Very peaceful image ❤ Truly Great Work.
