Do you occasionally feel as though something is keeping you from advancing in life or from achieving some of your most important goals? If so, what could it be?

If this is the case, it is very likely that you are dealing with unconscious psychological blocks, which serve as imperceptible roadblocks to the reality you so desperately want to live.

These psychological obstacles are sources of suffering and frustration, and they also lower our sense of confidence and self-worth.

I advise you to read this article to learn how to spot and get past these subconscious psychological barriers so you can realise your full potential for happiness and achieve your goals.

This essay was written as a part of my 32-article challenge, which was motivated by best-selling author Louise Hay's belief that we can all positively transform our lives.

The unconscious is a term used in modern psychology to describe a portion of our minds that is hidden from view.

The unconscious, according to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, is a storehouse of impulses, desires, emotions, thoughts, memories, and defence mechanisms that we are unaware of but that have an impact on our daily behaviours.

This hidden part of our mind stores memories of painfully endured traumatic experiences as well as information from our prenatal life and the interpretation of the words we just heard.

And in this way, certain phobias, fears, or limiting thought patterns can become ingrained in our unconscious and have an impact on our daily lives without our being fully aware of why.

You've probably heard the phrase "reprogramming your subconscious" before, and you might be wondering what makes the unconscious and subconscious different.

Actually, the main distinction between these two terms is in the methodology and terminology.

On the one hand, the term "subconscious" is frequently used in psychology as a synonym for "unconscious" to describe the portion of our mind that is not immediately visible to us.

In order to better understand the thought patterns and complex psychological processes that can affect our behaviours, the unconscious is frequently explored through therapy techniques like psychoanalysis or Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy (CBT).

On the other hand, the idea of reprogramming the subconscious is frequently used in a context more oriented towards personal change techniques in the fields of personal development and coaching.

Self-hypnosis, creative visualisation, meditation, positive affirmations, and other similar techniques may fall under this category.
