Emotional overload - How to create tranquility

in life •  4 years ago

What should you be especially careful and careful about at the moment? To our emotions! It is the emotional sphere that can now “overload”, cause apathy, deprive concentration and vitality. Why is this happening and how to take care of your emotions?

Now this is a reality that 90% of people face - confusion in their feelings, loss of control over thoughts and emotions . And this condition can be very draining physically, psychologically and mentally if nothing is done about it.

During a pandemic, crisis and quarantine, which suddenly began for everyone, it is absolutely normal to be subject to fears, feelings of uncertainty and insecurity . Plus to this - a continuous flow of various information, statistics, forecasts , which increase fears and make you look at the world through the prism of anxiety .

These feelings and states are normal! But, if you do nothing with them, then this will lead to emotional chaos and deprive the ability to make clear effective decisions.

Emotional chaos and overload in the current situation can have two sources:

Traumatic events. For example, the loss of a friend or loved one due to a virus. In this case, pain, grief and other hard feelings can “cover” and not let go. This category also includes doctors and health workers, whose emotional background is now the most vulnerable.

Constant accumulating stress. Anxiety, stress, fears, experiences accumulate every day. Combined with the "Groundhog Day" in which many now live, it resembles a huge "gray" and dismal abyss.
How to understand that you have already "covered"?

Now, more than ever, you can not ignore your feelings or try to "suppress" them. Here are some steps to help you deal with your emotional stress without hurting yourself.

You cannot blame yourself and criticize yourself for the “wrong” emotions. We have already figured out above that such emotional manifestations are absolutely normal. They just showed up because of a stressful and critical situation.

Accept each of your feelings without criticism or judgment. Pay attention to yourself and your condition: what do you feel, what thoughts arise during this, what do you want to do?

The main reason we are overwhelmed with emotions in this situation is the emotional filter through which we pass what we hear, see or think.

If you tell yourself every time that “the situation is getting worse and worse,” “there is no way out,” “it will never end,” etc., then you begin to see reality only in a negative light. This reaction can and should be controlled.

Set up your emotional filter. Move aside from what you read, listen or see - take it simply as information, without emotional coloring .

To distance yourself from information and reduce emotional overload, you can use one or more of these tips:

  • keep a diary of emotions and thoughts , in which you write down what you feel and think during the day;
  • set aside time for calm and pleasant activities , during which your brain rests and you are filled with positive emotions;
  • communicate with loved ones from the perspective of a “listener” , not an “appraiser” or “critic” - and ask the same from them.
