Truth about meditation

It took me years to get to the point where my practise got visible impact on my life. I used to read tons of articles about meditation, trying to find THE RIGHT way of practising. I was wrong. There isn't one. A magical excercise which give you ultimate mindfulness doesn't exist. The truth is that it's all about not thinking. That's it. Just stop.

What I like to is to just lay down on my bed (apparently very bad idea because you can fell asleep easly - which never happend to me), close my eyes, put on earphones with light relaxing music and imagine a table. Or a rock. Or something else. Doesn't matter what. Just try to imagine it. Without words. Just a picture. Other good way is to count breaths, but by trying to imagine changing numbers. 8, 9, 10. Like a flip clock. One number becomes next one. Do it for five or ten minutes a day and pretty soon you will see changes in your life. Conversations will become easier. You will get a couple of minutes focus more. You will sleep a little better.
For me meditation is a foundation. Without it I wouldn't be here, on my path to perfect self-discipline and I would strongly recommend to practice it every day, the way it works for you. Experiment a little. Try to find your "trick" to achieve peace and mindfulness, but when you find it, stick to it!

Summary:

  • Practice every day at least for a couple of minutes.
  • Try to imagine a thing (tree, rock, table...) without using a words.
  • Count breaths imagining numbers (not saying them in your ming) just like in a flip clock
  • Experiment with diffrent ways of achievieng mindfulness and if you find a good one, stick to it!
