Hash Focus: Minneapolis H3

in running •  3 years ago

I had the pleasure of running with this group quite a few years ago and while I do not know any of their active members that I am aware of, I had a great time. It wont be long before it becomes brutally cold in that part of the United States, so if you were thinking of getting involved without potentially freezing to death in the process, now is the time to get moving.

They meet every Thursday at 5pm and every Sunday at noon. I don't actually know if they still do the meetups during the really cold times of year but I know that when I ran with them it was late October / early November and it as already snowing, which was just crazy in my mind. I have not been there for a long time but it is fantastic to see that they are still meeting up and have a rather active group as well.

I did not attend this event and honestly, I would be hesitant to do so. This is basically the exact opposite of what our hash events are like here in scorching hot Chiang Mai and maybe most of the guys involved in this would think that our conditions are unbearable as well. For me, heat is kind of uncomfortable but cold HURTS.

It isn't always freezing cold in Minneapolis though and I would be willing to bet that most of the members prefer the summer months because despite what people might think about Minnesota, the nature there is absolutely outstanding.

One thing that stands out about this Hash is the fact that all of their events are with live hares, which means that they have a person who starts out first and marks the trail that you are supposed to be taking not the day before, but just 15 minutes before you head off after them. The idea behind any live hare event is to catch up to the Hare, but in the very few events that I did that were like this, no one ever has caught up with them unless they were merely waiting for you to do so at a beer stop.

They I also like how they changed the Thursday meetups to be the "Twin Titties" events because the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is referred to officially as the "Twin Cities."

Probably one of the most creative logos I have seen in any Hash anywhere in the world

If you want to join these guys the event fees are damn near nothing, which means that they have less fiscal responsibility than even we do. For virgins (first-timers) the fee is a grand total of nothing and members or returning visitors only have to pay either $5 or a 6 pack of beer. This is one of the lowest price Hashes I have ever been to and they have to be losing money on this. Whatever! Us Hashers are not known for our incredible intelligence.
