Beer stops are a really fun part of running with the Hash House Harriers but unfortunately because of the rather unforgiving terrain that we deal with for the most part, they aren't terribly possible. No one is going to carry a crate of beer up into the mountains and wait for everyone to arrive. There needs to be some sort of road access and since the entire idea behind the Hash is to stay off of roads as often as possible, this is unlikely to be a part of the ordeal.
Every now and then we get a lucky trail though that has some sort of access and that's what happened this past Thursday.
What this entails is that somewhere, normally about halfway through the run, there will be one of he hares (the people who set the trails) that are waiting for the pack with a bunch of beers that you are meant to drink before carrying on. Of course no one is forced to drink a beer and we are all very aware of the dehydration dangers that can even make this dangerous but what can I say? We are a bunch of dare-devils.
"Suckit" was one of the Hares this week and he has a bit of a reputation for doing anything he can to get a beer stop into his runs so this wasn't entirely unexpected. He is one of the few that makes it a point to have a beer stop if it is at all possible.
We also ended up with a bunch of food after the run and this is also very rare.
While beer is compulsory, food is just an added bonus at most of our events and honestly, it is probably a good idea to get something in your belly other than just beer after you have been on a 6k run.
The trail itself was pretty good and we had a decent turnout even though most of our members still haven't made it back to Thailand because the visa situation is still a bit complicated because of Covid regulations. Hopefully we will be able to get past that soon.
All in all it was a good day and a good time was had by all and once again, nobody died or was seriously injured, which is always a plus.
