Two successful drunk runs in a row

There is a thing that I like to do every now and then and this is to get smashed with friends during the day and then later see if I can go run off a great many of the calories in what I call "drunning."

It probably isn't the best idea because of the potential dehydration and also because since I am drunk the opportunity is greater for me to trip and fall. The good aspect of it is the fact that since these take place later in the night mostly, there is nobody in my way on the footpaths or sidewalks. If I get the right tunes in my ears I don't even really feel like I am drunk either plus I feel like my drunkenness actually makes me more stubborn and less likely to quit.

I invite people on these runs but as of yet no one has taken me up on the offer. I'm having a tough time convincing them that it actually is kind of fun and I am also not that disappointed that they decline the offer because when exercising, I actually prefer to be alone anyway.

If I am sober and really trying for it, I am around a 6:30 per km pace runner. As you can see above when my tummy is full of swill I am significantly slower. I think the main reason why this is the case isn't because I am actually running any slower, I am just taking a lot more breaks and instead of jogging I will just do a fast run.

I believe that all exercise needs to be something that if you can't enjoy it, you need to at least not hate it. In order for me to not hate it I need to not be pushing myself to crazy levels especially when I've had a dozen lagers leading up to it.

This one was a bit better and something I am more proud of because it is the only 10k I did this month. I actually did this one while my friends were still at the bar. It was one person's birthday that night and I ran into them when I was around 5k in. I contemplated just stopping my run right there but instead went up to the birthday boy and said "If I promise to run another 5k tonight, will you do a birthday shot with me?"

I don't even like shots and I definitely don't think they benefit your ability to run but I do like a challenge. He chose the spirit and it was a shot of Jonnie Walker Black, which I really do not care for. I could feel it burning in my stomach while I was running but my pace didn't suffer too much. I did my other 5k and then returned to the bar to many accolades.

It's a strange thing to do and certainly not something I recommend to other people, it's just something that I do and it is kind of a penance for all those empty calories I take in when I drink too much in a day.

Life is all about balance and sometimes my achieving of balance comes with putting on some socks and running shoes past midnight. Oddly enough I have been able to run straight on nights where I could no longer walk straight.... or maybe I am just imagining that I am moving straight and perhaps I just look like a lunatic. No matter the situation, I got it done and added 17km to my monthly total and I don't really even remember very much of it!
