Marathon Post #4

Today I have several updates with regards to my marathon plans.

Running

First of all I did another run today. Despite the cold and any excuse that would stop any sane person to go out, I went out with my colleague and we did a nice 5km run in 25 minutes. It was more clear, a bit more sunny and less cold than yesterday, but still bad enough for most people to want to stay inside.

My 4 back-to-back runs in comparison. Today's was clearly the 'worst', but it was also the first I did with my colleague again

The result is nothing special and fairly average, but it helps building the form and stamina that I need to prepare myself for the marathon. During this run, my colleague mentioned he's interested in joining the challenge with me, if we find the right location. So this built the acceptance that we're going to do this together.

I have a training and running partner!!!

Which Marathon???

With that said, it brings me to the next update. My wife has always said that we should go on Wintersports next year as my daughter will be 4 then and old enough to start standing on skiis, I had promised her this, but this messes up with my plans to run the Tel-Aviv marathon. This combined with the fact that my colleague wants to join me, made me review the options. If we run a marathon this year, it's going to be one of the following, so if any of you have any experience with any of them, I'd love to hear it:

Of course there's also the option that we'll run next year in spring, but I'm an impatient person, so I'd rather do it this year than having to wait more than a year.

Feel free to do if you're ever in the neighboorhood! Running with someone is always nicer and motivates better than running alone.

Good for you to have a running buddy! I've not been on any marathons from the list. Not to interfere with your plans... just thought you might consider and check also the Ljubljana marathon, which is also in the end of October. It is a medium size in terms of a number of runners, really well organized, with a long tradition, flat route and Ljubljana should be interesting enough also from the touristic point of view for your family.

Thanks for the suggestion, I got my list from worldsmarathons.com, but I've either overlooked it or it's not on the list, but I like the suggestion. Timing is right, so is the surface and it's not too far away and thus the climate and conditions won't be very different from what I'm used to train in, which is also a criteria for me.

I just saw why it didn't come up on my search, there is no indication on the site of the surface and I filtered on specific surface, that's why it didn't come up, but I've added it to my list. Will you do it as well?

I am using Ahotu.com list... to my knowledge and experience, it is the most updated and includes also relatively smaller and unknown marathons. I've run in different countries and cities and I would say that Ljubljana is very solid from all point of view. But do check the list (you can define month, type of run, countries)... It is a well-maintained search page.
Will I run as well? If I will do another full marathon in autumn (my marathon is in May), then I will go to Ljubljana. If I will not go, and I will be in Ljubljana, I will cheer for all the runners!

Well, my colleague and I have decided on where we go. I'll reveal all very soon, but it does depend on whether my wife can get off and a few other factors. More will be revealed soon, but unfortunately it won't be Ljubljana as it seems now. We did have it on our shortlist.

No worries... wherever you will run, I am sure you will run well!

I always try to train with another person, too. It makes more fun and when you are not motivated, together you can always get the target.

The best is, even when the weather is bad or you're not feeling the best, the fact that you've 'agreed' to go with someone pulls you to go outside and do it anyway.

Thank's for sharing

Its great to see that you have a running partner. Its easier to run with someone, it keeps you going. :)

And it motivates you to go, whatever the weather.

Better together!

Great job! Congrats. Training for healty life :)

I really didn’t know about the running project and it’s bot..thanks 🙏🏽

Do running and alcohol works...

Good on you for getting out in all weathers.

I'm a wuss when it comes to the weather. I don't run in the rain or when it is really windy. (and in Wellington really windy means really windy.)

I used to work in the outdoors and had no choice about when to work outside, but now that I do, I figure I'll keep inside when the weather is crappy.

If the weather is crappy during a race, I'll just have to handle it.

So you are running about 5km as a a distance right now - how far were you planning extending that before your marathon? Do you have any hills to train on where you are?

The 5km is only because I run every day, but today I ran 11km. If you see my other running posts there are a few really extreme runs in there, snow storms, icy conditions, leaping over fallen trees, etc It's been an extreme winter. Where I live it's very hilly so on average I have about 140 altitude meters in a run. The 5km runs are during my lunch break at work.

I'm now so used to running that I barely take notice of the weather. I push myself to go out there regardless and I feel great about it when I'm (one of the) only ones out there, maybe even a bit smug. But I have to.

Good on you! I prefer the nicer weather for running ;-) As i said, I'm a wuss ;-)

But we are coming to he end of the nice weather - winter is coming. And if I am to complete my goal this winter, I'll have to be out running as much as i can despite the weather.

Then I can be as smug as you ;-)

Well, we did a #fiftyrunstillmay challenge here on steemit. Maybe you could start something similar. It was to motivate us to keep running in the winter, but you could do the same for people who are now starting to get the winter.

To be honest I'm a lazy b*strd and if I don't push myself to go out there, I'd stop really soon. That's the only reason why I keep going regardless the weather. Basically I'm a stupid lazy idiot who's rather stubborn and sick then healthy and clever 😉

Hello, Doron! Wanted to ask - which marathons have you already run? I am a runner myself - I have done the Asics Stockholm Marathon and the Athens Authentic Marathon (this in my opinion is a must for every marathonist). As well I am interested in the @runningproject , could you tell me more about it?

Hi LAura, welcome to steemit!

I haven't ran any marathons yet in my life. Until a few years back I never ran in my life. I'm turning 40 in October next year and now that I'm running on a regular basis I want to do 1 marathon before I'm 40. So that's what I'm posting about in a nutshell.

The @runningproject is a way to motivate runners to keep running. You need to apply and pay a small fee for a lifetime membership. They will then upvote every post that you make. That's it in a nutshell.
