Making Sense of Suffering: A Collective Attempt for Healing Trauma

I recently saw Gabor Mate's video The Wisdom of Trauma, and I was completely swept away by the experience. I wanted to share it with you because I believed that presenting a fresh perspective will resonate with something in each of us at this particular point in time.

Trauma is described as the effects and symptoms of our past events that remain with us after they have occurred. Trauma is a phrase that we use to describe any terrible experience that we encounter in our lives.

When we take a look at the living conditions in Turkey and around the world, we can see that nothing is going well for us, and we can see the consequences of this in real time on social media. Possibly, we lose hope not only in the chance of nice things occurring, but also in the likelihood of bad things occurring.

But what really happened, and what can we infer from these instances, is still up in the air. Is what we're witnessing real, or are we just rehashing old material?

What do our scars, illnesses, and life events have to say about who we are? What I'm saying is, do you understand what I'm saying?

Do we ever wonder if there is a connection between what happens to us and who we are?

What am I doing here, why am I here now, why am I here now?

Gabor Mate, a medical doctor who practises non-traditional medicine, interprets trauma as a dissociation from one's own self or from one's surroundings. When a person is dissatisfied with his or her current reality, he or she alienates himself or herself in attempt to escape it. Since this estrangement has reached such heights, the majority of our automatic activities that we engage in on a daily basis have become completely unconscious to us. We use seemingly routine activities such as playing games, watching television shows, and participating in sports to distract ourselves from our problems.

Gabriel Mate believes that the most important requirements of a baby are bonding and authenticity, or the opportunity to be oneself in his or her environment.

When there is no attachment or creativity in our lives, our lives become disconnected, and this is how all addictions begin to grow. When we think about addiction, we typically think about it as a healthy approach to protect ourselves from our own trauma. However, we fail to realise that by distancing ourselves from our wound, we are also alienating ourselves from the rest of life and reality. When we don't know what to do, we don't fight; instead, we flee or flee and hide. A wound, a fire, a sickness, or death, on the other hand, may one day open a door that allows you to remember who you are and reconnect with reality.

This tragedy is signalling to us that it is imperative that we band together. It is now, more than ever, critical to be true to one's self. Our shared pain demonstrates that there is still potential for change and betterment in our lives. In all ancient manuscripts, as well as at the entrance to the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, the words "Know oneself" are written in gold letters. This is no coincidence.

Know yourself through becoming in touch with your innermost feelings!
The only way to see someone else's wound is if you first know what your own wound looks like.
If you first recognise your own power, you may then go out and aid someone else who is in need.
If you know who you are, you will be yourself rather than attempting to be different from others.
Those who know themselves will observe how othering isolates them from life; those who know themselves will realise how othering includes them in life, and they will include it.

Knowing and loving oneself is necessary before you can love and defend another.
Somebody else, be it a woman, a man, a child, or something in nature, such as a flower, an insect, or anything else.

How am I expected to know myself?” says the author. Assuming that's the case, you should ask yourself: "Why me? Why now? Why this place?"

And, if you take a step back, you'll discover that actual trauma can be repaired!
